As a prelude to the event series „Debate on Europe“, prominent representatives from politics, science, and culture will discuss Germany’s scarcity of immigrants, deficiencies in integration policies and possible collective European approaches. The panel discussion takes place on June 24th 2011 at 18:00 h in the Allianz Forum in Berlin. At the same time, it highlights the conclusion of this year’s Foundation Week in Berlin.

In Central and Eastern Europe antisemitism, xenophobia and racist excesses directed against minorities are increasing alarmingly. Where does this hatred come from and why does the EU only react half-heartedly to these excesses that undermine the foundations of the European project?

What can we expect of the next climate summit in Cancun? How much longer can mankind afford such an irresponsible behaviour on the part of the rich countries?

What kind of European immigration policy will enable us to reconcile humanitarianism with economic necessities and facilitate a better integration of immigrants into our society? How can the individual citizen and consumer contribute to an improvement of the inhumane working and living conditions of illegal immigrants?

What can we still learn in the opera today, and which epistemic models for the world does the European music theatre provide the audience with? Why are most of the productions – including contemporary ones – more concerned with the transfiguration of reality than with enlightenment?

This question will be discussed by the former Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Igor Iwanow, the Chairman of the Munich Conference on Security Policy, Wolfgang Ischinger, the EU Special Envoy for Central Asia and crisis situations in Georgia, Pierre Morel, and the American Expert for International Relations and author of "The Second World", Parag Khanna.

These questions will be discussed by Robert Glasser, General Secretary of CARE International, Sunita Narain, Indian environmentalist and political activist, Hans-Joachim Schellnhuber, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Prabhu Guptara, Member of the World Future Council and the Professor of Sociology Ulrich Beck on Sunday March 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Allianz Foundation Forum, Pariser Platz 6, Berlin.

Peer Steinbrück, Germany's finance minister, Jean-Claude Juncker, Luxemburg's prime minister and finance minister as well as president of the Eurogroup, Harold James, Professor of European Economic History at Princeton, and Michael Heise, Chief Economist of Allianz Group, meet on Sunday February 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Allianz Foundation Forum, Pariser Platz 6, Berlin, to discuss this emotive topic.

The British-Iraqi star architect Zaha Hadid, the former Director of the Guggenheim Foundation Thomas Krens, Michael Schindhelm and Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisors of the Royal families of Dubai and Abu Dhabi will discuss about the cultural large-scale projects on the Arabian Peninsula. The discussion is planned for February 1, 2009, at 11 p.m., at the State Opera House in Berlin.

The Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Karel Schwarzenberg (Czech Republic) and Bruno Le Maire, France's Minister of State responsible for European Affairs, will open the lectures' series DEBATE ON EUROPE on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at 11 p.m., initiated by the Allianz Cultural Foundation.

Allianz CEO Michael Diekmann: "Only by acting sustainably can we ensure sustainable business success". Upon the opening of the new Allianz Foundation Forum in Berlin, the CEO describes a vision for responsible business conduct.

Common public and private cultural sponsorship is groundbreaking - On the occassion of the opening of the "Allianz Foundation Forum Pariser Platz" in Berlin on Tuesday (today), themed "The culture of sustainability", the Minister of the State responsible for Culture, Bernd Neumann, argued for an even stronger cooperation between public and private cultural sponsorship.

A panel discussion by well-known figures launches a very special venue sponsored by the foundations of Allianz SE and Dresdner Bank AG. The Allianz Foundation Forum will be a home for social dialogue next door to the Brandenburg Gate, and a platform for other foundations and institutions.

The “Let’s Talk about Europe” discussion series concludes on Sunday, April 27, 11am, in the Burgtheater with the topic “What Holds a Society Together?.” The final panel is composed of Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer, Italian InteriorMinister Giuliano Amato, British sociologist Anthony Giddens, and Harvard professor Jennifer Hochschild. It is moderated by Krzysztof Michalski, the Rector of the IWM.
