On the one hand it demonstrates a clear summary concerning the guiding themes and goals of the foundational work; on the other hand it provides an insight into selected operative projects as well as into the commen guidelines and criteria for funding.

Culture needs space ... and a partner to create it
From its outset, the Allianz Kulturstiftung has taken Europe´s diversity as the starting point for its projects and considers its common cultural heritage to be the basis for a new European identity. on account of around 250 funded and operative projects, a process of transnational understanding among cooperating partners has been initiated that has furthererd European integration in a lasting way. The programme´s range encompasses all artistic genres including architecture and urban planning. Over the past five years, the Allianz Kulturstiftung has supported exhibitions, concerts and symposiums, as well as developed its own projects, such as the international academies for conductors and composers, workshops with festival directors and curators from eastern Europe or, since 2004, the Allianz Summer Academy, to which students from five elite European universities are invited every year.

50 Years of Roman Treaties - A Stocktaking of the European Union (EU)

Abendland unter?
January 2007 witnessed the start of Germany's EU Council Presidency. Following polls taken in France and the Netherlands, the project focused on a European constitution is tentatively put on ice. But when influential decision-makers of the European states adjourn to access the matter, this gives occasion to a stocktaking of the European question: What are Europe's visions? Where do its boundaries lie? How should it confront economic and ecology-related challenges? What are the consequences of migration in Western Europe's major cities? Do issues such as the head scarf debate and sensational caricatures herald a struggle between cultures? In this volume of essays, Let's talk about Europe, well-known politicians, scholars, writers, and managers present perspectives in which the Old World can be discovered anew. They discuss the risks involved, where societies have an inordinate number of older citizens; weak economic growth and the vanishing of jobs increasingly caused by social inclinations; the EU's Eastern expansion; and new, fissured social boundaries alongside religious affiliations in the continent's interior.
