Allianz Translator's Prize 2007/2008
An initiative of the Allianz Kulturstiftung in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair, the B.I.Z. Bucharest and the Goethe-Institute Bucharest.
The endowed Allianz Translator's prize was awarded for the first time in 2006. The Prize intends to honor outstanding translations in the languages of Central and Eastern Europe. It focuses on the support of translations in the field of social sciences and arts, which play an important role for the understanding and the integration process between peoples in the European spirit.
Awarding on June 6, 2008, 5 p.m. at "Agora" (hall 17 of the Bucharest Book Fair)
It is a migrating prize, which will be awarded every year for a specific country. After Poland in 2005/06, the prize was endowed in 2007 for outstanding romanian translations and then will be awarded in Bucharest on June 6, 2008.
The prize for the best translation already published (5.000 Euro) goes to Maria-Magdalena Anghelescu for Horst Bredekamp's "Antikensehnsucht und Maschinenglauben. Die Geschichte der Kunstkammer und die Zukunft der Kunstgeschichte" (Nostalgia antichităţii şi cultul maşinilor. Istoria cabinetului de curiozităţi şi viitorul istoriei artei, Idea Design Print & Print, Cluj 2007).
The prize for the best translation project (ex aequo, both 2.500 Euro) goes to Radu Gabriel Pârvu for Arthur Schopenhauer's "Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung" (Lumea ca voinţă şi reprezentare, Humanitas-Verlag, Bucharest) and to Viorica Nişcov for C.G. Jung's "Zur Psychologie westlicher und östlicher Religion" (Despre psihologia religiei occidentale şi a celei orientale, Trei-Verlag, Bucharest).
The Jury consisted of Catrinel Plesu, translator and director of the translation promotion programme of the Romanian Cultural Institute Bucharest; Prof. George Gutu, Ioana Craciun Fischer and Prof. Dr. Mircea Flonta, all University of Bucharest.
