First Literature Festival in Lviv (Lemberg)/Ukraine: Lectures, panel and podium discussions on the subject "Young literatures in Central Eastern Europe"

The first Lemberg Literature Festival was hold during this year's book fair in Lviv (Lemberg), Ukraine, from 15 to 17 September. The Allianz Cultural Foundation provided support, enabling the Lemberg Book Fair and the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LBC) to invite the authors Juri Andruchowytsch (Ukraine), Thomas Brussig (Germany), Marius Ivaskevicius (Lithuania), Irena Karpa (Ukraine), Andrej Khadanovich (Belarus), Dorota Maslowska (Poland), Martin Pollack (Austria), Ingo Schulze (Berlin), Sergej Timofejev (Latvia) and Serhij Zhadan (Ukraine) to Lviv (Lemberg). Apart from numerous readings at various venues in the city, two round table discussions focusing on the issues of "European Borderlands: Geopoetics" and "What is a Writer? were a focal point for the festival. The authors presented written statements for these debates or read extracts from their books. These statements were available in the original language and translations were provided in Ukrainian, English and German for visitors to the festival. A Festival Almanach with texts, photographs and bio-bibliographies for all participants also was published for the festival.
