Since 2001 Jeunesses Moderne has followed the concept of a summer workshop: young instrumentalists aged between 16 and 20 years, 20 each from France and Germany respectively, are invited to take part. The target group is highly qualified musicians. The aim of the workshop is - under the motto "Adventure New Music" - to guide young instrumentalists and composers to contemporary classical music and in an international dialogue become acquainted with the music structure of a neighbouring country.

The young musicians will be looked after by distinguished German and French music teachers. Within the workshop there is a big space for improvisiations and own experiments. The courses will be offered for the following instruments: flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano. It has been decided to devote the courses to the chamber music of the 20th century. This year's summer workshop will be held from 21st August - 1st September in conjunction with the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieure de Danse et Musique de Lyon. The focus is on the sector of drums/percussion; live electronics and computer are also included by integrating various studios in Lyon. The team of teachers consists of top German and French specialists for contemporary music, e.g. Peter Michael Hamel, Marc Danel, Carin Levine and Henry Fourés.In the run-up to the workshop two compositions will be commisioned to one composer each from France and Germany, which will then be rehearsed by the participants during the course and performed within three concerts - two of which within the bounds of the Berlioz Festival in Lyon.
