The orchestra was established in 2002 and has made a name for itself in this field. The orchestra has between 40 and 95 highly talented musicians aged between 22 and 26 from the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. The selection of the musical program and the rehearsal and performance venues for the three working phases over the year are chosen with a view to supporting the mission to promote understanding between peoples and nations. The Marion Dönhoff Foundation awarded 2005 a prize to the Young Sound Forum of Central Europe, because ot it's merit for international understanding and it's commitment for better relations between Germany and the countries of East Europe.

Rehearsals at the Schloss Kreisau

The project "Czech Republic, Poland and Germany at the Heart of Europe" is taking place from 6 August to 21 August 2006. Rehearsals for the musical program are being held at the Schloss Kreisau international conference centre in Krzyzowa (Republic of Poland). The world-famous composer, teacher and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki agreed to mastermind this year's project. The soloist for the program is Tomasz Tomaszewski, first concertmaster at the Deutscher Oper Berlin. Apart from performance of Penderecki's musical program, the Young Sound Forum is focusing on performing Beethoven's 4th Symphony at important historical venues. Our aim is also to highlight the contribution made by the compose Wladyslaw Szpilman (1911-2000), survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto and famous as a result of Roman Polanski's film "The Pianist". Lech Walesa, Václav Havel and Richard von Weizsäcker are patrons of the "Young Sound Forum of Central Europe".
