Love in Europe - Youth meets Frankfurt/Oder
Europe houses a priceless cultural diversity, which considerably influences the identity of every single person. We meet people of various origins and cultures in a Europe which is growing together.

"Love in Europe - Youth meets Frankfurt/Oder" wants to enter into an intensive exchange of views on these differences with young people from nine countries. By holding the event in Frankfurt/Oder this city was deliberately chosen as it is situated at one of the frontiers in Europe which is increasingly fading away.By studying their own cultural identity in the form of plays etc. it should be possible for young people to develop a better understanding for foreigners, for their neighbours' identity. At the same time "Love in Europe" takes advantage of the fact that young people encounter a lot of European dramas during their schooldays - thus for example the ancient dramas of Greece and those of Shakespeare right up to the dramas of Goethe and Schiller. And by going into the history of the European theatre there also occurs a learning process about the history of the continent.

The project works in two phases: From August until mid-October, 2002 the young people select a "love scene" from a well-known, national drama which they playfully act out under the guidance of a drama teacher. In the second phase from 20th - 27th October, 2002, the young people meet in Frankfurt/Oder: First of all they present their "national" scenes and then rehearse "European love stories" in internationally mixed groups, which should "overcome" not only language but also cultural barriers. In November/December the students will then examine a classical drama from one of the countries participating. The progress of the work will be recorded on the internet.
