Theatre/Festivals in Transition (FIT)
Festivals in Transition is the international initiative of eight theatre festivals from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Germany. The aim of this initiative is to reflect the importance of international theatre festivals as part of the European cultural environment.
From September 2005 onwards, a series of guest performances, readings, hearings, interviews, debates and discussions at all participating festival venues will help draw greater attention to the role that festivals play in the mind of the public, in local and national cultural affairs and in European institutions, as the driving force behind the cultural networking of Europe. Within the scope of this campaign, local and international artists, ministers for cultural affairs, producers and festival managers will be addressing specific aspects of festival policy at each of the different venues, and exchanging information on various topics and the experience gained.
Première of the play "Risiko/Zaryzykuj" of Georg F. Walker within the scope of the first night of the Festival in transition in november 2005.
The objective is to strengthen the cultural and political importance of festivals at home and throughout Europe by developing a common communication strategy, and to make clear that an appropriate financial contribution from the European cultural budget is necessary for the execution of the manifold, transnational, cultural function that festivals often fulfil over a period of many years.
