On Difference #2

The project series "On Difference #2", which is this year holding exhibitions in Stuttgart and Budapest and a symposium ocused on the issue of "Politics of Space" was developed by art association Württembergischer Kunstverein in cooperation with numerous international curators and artists. The series will focus on issues such as the social situation in the countries of Central and South-eastern Europe (specifically: Hungary, Slovenia and Bulgaria).

This year's project presents independent communication and presentation formats of contemporary art, e.g. Internet forums, magazines and self-administered exhibition rooms. The protagonists in these works address social, political, economic and urban developments.The aim of "On Difference #2" is to create sustainable networks for contemporary visual art between Eastern and Western Europe, with the project conveying the variety of artistic practice in Eastern Europe.

The interdisciplinary symposium held within the scope of the exhibition illuminates and elaborates on various aspects of the exhibition. One focus of the symposium is critical reflection on the political and economic backgrounds to urban developments that are discussed in a local and global context. For example, one subject is the city of Sophia and the far-reaching changes that are occurring in visual culture in post-Communist societies.
