On November 16, the Transkultura art project begins with the opening of the exhibition by Shahram Entekhabi entitled "It's been a long way, baby" in Cracow. The municipal art gallery Bunkier Sztuki is staging a series of exhibitions, installations and workshops in cooperation with the Goethe Institute Cracow, the Allianz Kulturstiftung, and other partners. The aim is to generate a debate on transculturality, identity and migration, and the opportunities offered by art.

The two curators Anna Smolak and Magdalena Ujma have developed the concept of an exhibition cycle over a year on the subject of "Transkultura" for the Galeria Dolna of the Bunkier Sztuki. They are implementing this concept together with the Goethe Institute Cracow, the Allianz Kulturstiftung, and other partners. The framework of the project is provided by the website http://www.transkultura.art.pl. In addition to a general introduction, the website will include information about the exhibitions and artists, the associated workshops and discussion forums, and keynote essays by anthropologists, sociologists, curators and other experts on the subject of "Transkultura".

There will also be a forum moderated by the curators and an artistic web product. Each of the planned six exhibitions will be accompanied by workshops and discussion forums held in cooperation with the Cracow Academy of Art. The series of events will finish with an international conference organized in conjunction with the Faculty of European Culture at Jagiellonen University (Professor Zdzislaw Mach), with presentations by artists, sociologists, cultural scientists and representatives from other disciplines. Transculturality is regarded as an ideal for society in the future and an ideal for Europe.

On the other hand, separatist identities are gaining an increasingly high profile, and issues of belonging and separation are seen as responses to the blurring of boundaries and uncertainties brought about by globalization and cultural processes. Polish society has so far paid little attention to the consequences of migration, and the processes of acculturation and separation. This project is bringing the issue to the attention of the Polish public and highlighting the role of art.
