Women in Europe

Cologne artist Bettina Flitner traveled through Europe for three years with her camera. Her aim was to build a portfolio with portrait photographs of outstanding European women from the areas of politics, culture, academia and business. There are many different portraits - Angela Merkel, Sirkka Hämäläinen, Simone Veil and Katarzyna Kozyra - Bettina Flitner made portraits of more than 60 women. They are all Europeans who have achieved great things and who have become role models beyond the confines of their own countries.
The photo exhibition "Women in Europe" was presented from March 8 to May 10, 2007 at three venues in Brussels. 20 large-scale portraits and 40 photo collages were shown at the former Tour & Taxis Royal Warehouse that was spectacularly renovated in 2004. Photo portraits of selected European women were exhibited in the joint foyer of the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee, and in the foyer of the EU Office of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
